THE POST:
As we say often here in Rijeka... IZNENAĐENJE!! Im getting transfered! Haha. President Rowe told me a few weeks ago that he felt the prompting to keep me in Croatia until he received further promptings, and apparently he received further promptings. Im going to Osijek!! Its a city farrrr far away from all other cities in Croatia. So far away, that I won''t even be in the Croation zone anymore. I will be going to the Serbian zone... Good thing I have been singing a hymn in cyrillics every morning for language study, because now I will be going to Serbia for zone conference next week. Oh man. Its crazy... but its okay. I trust President Rowe 10 million %. So thats the big news.
Sister Petersons birthday was yesterday. It was CERTAINLY a party. I was so excited. I got up in the morning and decorated the apartment and made palečinke (its cool, because i learned how to make them by scratch) and hid all of her birthday presents. Apparently thats a thing she does in her family? And she hid the easter basket that her aunt sent for me on Easter, so its was partially for fun, and partially for revenge.
After breakfast, we went to church and FORTY FIVE PEOPLE came to church. Oh my goodness.! We have had this mission wide goal, and a zone goal to have people in church. For Croatia, it has been 500. And we got 502!!!!! It was literally a miracle. We invited all these less actives and investigators and potential investigators to church... and we did our part, and then the Lord did his. People just literally flocked in from around the world. We had 17 visitors!!!! It was certainly a miracle. And it was a perfect party for Sister Peterson. She said what she really wanted for her birthday was for people to come to church... and they certainly did!!! Even Anna and her family came!! And they have been having CRAZY troubles with their little son and he has been going to and from all sorts of hospitals... and she still made it to church with her ENTIRE family. It was such a miracle. And we got to be in the room with them when Ivan gave them a blessing. It is so great to be there when a blessing is given in Croatian. AND I can understand it.
I just had this thought the whole time... We get to be apart of the building of the Lords kingdom in this little part of the world. The entirety of Croatia is the size of Iowa. Only about 4 million people out of the 7+ BILLION people in the world speak this language. And still, the Lord has missionaries here speaking it. He KNOWS His children. He knows them. And he wants them to hear his gospel. 2 Nephi 27-29 has been our favorite set of chapters this week. 2 Nephi 29:7 says:
"Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth?"
I have felt that this past week. And I feel so blessed to be in this little part of the world, helping these people. I have really been a happy sister missionary this week. Just sitting on the bus, watching Croatia go by, and seeing these people and speaking with them... I wouldn't rather be doing anything else in the entire world. I feel incredibly blessed to be apart of this work.
Later on yesterday, the Elders and I had this amazing surprise party planned. So Sister Peterson loves sports, right? And do you all remember me telling you about the Rijeka soccer player, Ajayi? Well our plan was that he was going to surprise sister peterson at the Maedas house when we went over there for dinner, and when he was there, he would present her with his jersey, signed by all of the Rijeka soccer team. And that was the plan. So my purpose was to get Sister Peterson away from the church until EXACTLY 6 o clock, so we wouldnt run into him before the party... and at about 530 we left... and of course, ran into him. Sister Peterson said, "hey, what are doing!" and he said "im going to surprise you!".... hahaha. He killed it. But it was really funny. So we had dinner with Ajayi and his girlfriend and his friend Sunny, and the district. It was quite a party. And Ajayi still delivered the jersey. It was such a cool jersey... It was fun making Sister Petersons birthday special.
We also had our last interviews with President this week. It was HIS exit interview. Haha. He is just the best... I love that guy. Perhaps my good attitude for the rest of the week was because of his incredible spirit. He gave me a blessing, too. Why is he the best? I have learned so much from him and from his example... Even with all the missionaries here, I feel personally loved and cared for by the Rowes. I truly feel Christlike love through them. I am excited to welcome President Grant. But I will very much miss President Rowe.
Valentina is so cool. She just wants to learn more and more every time with meet with her. Antonija and her family are still working towards baptism. Things are slowly moving, but they are moving. The most exciting thing was yesterday and the great success at church.
Well thats the summary. I feel like the Book of Mormon prophets. "I cannot write the hundredth part of the things of my people." Haha. I can really only remember yesterday... and then everything else is a blur.
Love you all. Youre in my prayers. Keep us in yours too. We need the miracles for these people.
